Obituary

Florence Marie (McWilliams) Eskew was born on August 27, 1912 one of twins born to Howard F. and Carolyn Belle (Comstock) McWilliams in rural Pisgah, Iowa. Florence entered into eternal peace on Sunday, July 11, 2010 in Atlantic, Iowa at the blessed age of 97.

Florence lived in rural Pisgah except for a brief time that the family moved to Texas. She graduated from Pisgah High School with the Class of 1930. She then attended Normal School in Shenandoah and taught in a one-room schoolhouse briefly prior to her marriage. On October 2, 1930 she was united in marriage to Jake Eskew.

Jake and Florence lived on various farms in Fremont County before moving into Farragut in 1948. She enjoyed reading, writing poetry, embroidering, piecing quilts together, and stamp and coin collecting. She also liked to pass the days by working puzzles and various word searches. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Florence was very proud of being a twin. A special article was written about Florence and Gladys in the Des Moines Register in celebration of their 97th birthdays.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons Rex and Robert; sisters Francis Alton and Edna White; brothers Glen and Howard and a granddaughter Susan Fletcher.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son John Eskew and wife Waunita of Atlantic; daughter Lola Nebitt of Farragut; daughter-in-law Beverly Nenneman of Papillion, NE; sisters Inez Johnson of Onawa and twin sister Gladys Carrigan of Underwood; brother Arthur McWilliams and wife Andrea of Logan; sister-in-law Shirley Jordan of Phoenix; grandsons Troy Eskew and wife Patty of Omaha, Tracy Eskew of Papillion, Dave Eskew and wife Deb of Laguna Naguel, CA, Jerry Nebitt of Baltimore and George Nebitt and wife Jani of Omaha; granddaughters Rebecca Eskew Elwood of Hahira, GA and Lisa Turnbull of Shenandoah; 15 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.; other family and friends.
