Everett D. Rowe, son of Cecil Elmer Rowe, Sr., and Lydia Emily (Neeman) Rowe, was born one of fifteen children on April 11, 1926 in Cook, Nebraska. He passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 13 days.
Everett attended school and graduated from Percival High School. Everett was most proud of his involvement in and winning of a scrap drive which allowed him to travel to New Orleans and christen a ship called the "Samuel Jordan Kirkwood".
In August of 1945, Everett, enlisted in the Army and served overseas towards the end of World War II. On December 19, 1945, while home on furlough, Everett was united in holy matrimony to Violet Lorraine Brown.
After his return from duty, Everett farmed and worked for Snyder Motors in Shenandoah. He later drove trucks for Heartland Express before being hired as a boilerman at the Eveready Battery Co. in Red Oak. He retired after 30 years from Eveready. In his earlier years Everett spent his free weekends working for his brother Cecil at the Conoco station in Shenandoah.
They lived in Page and Montgomery counties moving to Red Oak in 1988. While he could Everett enjoyed traveling, camping, hunting and fishing. Once house bound, he worked on his coin collecting hobby, further developed his taste for "good down home cooking" and enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune.
Everett was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Cecil Jr., Elmer, James and Jerry Rowe; sisters, Wilma McNeilly, Velma Dell Rowe, Margaret Rowe, Pearl Corporen and Lydia Jean Rowe. Survivors include his wife, Violet Rowe of Essex; daughter, Barbara Allocco and her husband Leonard of Omaha, NE; son, Dwayne Rowe of Essex; four grandchildren, David Allocco of Seattle, WA, Juanita Allocco of Omaha, NE, Jami Kussman and husband Robert , and Josh Vanderpool and wife Heather, all of Lexington, NE; four great grandchildren, River, Brooklyn and Hunter Kussman and Dalton Hollander, all of Lexington, NE; three brothers, Virgil Rowe of Fremont, NE, Ralph Rowe and wife Faye of Omaha, NE, and Darrell Rowe of Barstowe CO; two sisters, Lorraine Cox and husband Marvin of Northboro, IA and Anna Belle McMillan of Phoenix, AZ; several nieces and nephews and greats; other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah with Rev. Arlan Hoskins officiating. Katie Gresham attended the memorial register. Special music for the services was shared by Laurie Lathrop who performed "Just Inside The Eastern Gate" and "Will The Circle Be Unbroken". Other special music for the service included "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". Serving a casket bearers were Jim Alexander, Tom Anderson, J.R. Seering, Randall Johnson, Bill Long and Randy Vanderhoof. Burial followed in the Essex Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Weatherall-Hadden-Holmes American Legion Post #333.
