Obituary

Everett R. Brownfield, son of James William and Bertha (Athen) Brownfield, was born on November 25, 1918, in Hallett, Oklahoma. He passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2006, at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 88.

His early life was spent in Hallett. Everett later moved to Burlington Junction, Missouri, before settling in Blanchard, Iowa. On November 25, 1938, Everett was united in marriage to Phyllis Shaffer at Oregon, Missouri. Everett worked for a short time at the C. C. Camp in Tarkio, Missouri and also drove a school bus. Everett later worked as a mechanic for Max Snodderly in College Springs, Iowa. In 1947, Everett and his brother Harley opened their own auto repair shop. Everett, as long as his health enabled him, never missed spending time at the shop in his retirement. He loved automobiles and thoroughly enjoyed working on and fixing them. Everett also enjoyed hunting and was known to be a very good dancer.

Preceding Everett in death were his parents; daughter, Iris Rightsell; brothers and sisters, Elmer, Harley, Jim, Howard, Edna and Mabel. Survivors include his wife of over 62 years, Phyllis Brownfield of Blanchard, IA; three sons, Gary Brownfield and his wife Carolyn of Tama, IA, Rudy Brownfield and his wife Joyce and Randy Brownfield and his wife Jean, all of Blanchard, IA; 15 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sister, Lodema Plymell and husband Orlen "Bird" of Burlington Junction, MO; brother, George Brownfield of Sidney, IA; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 20, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at the Blanchard Methodist Church. Words of comfort were given by the Rev. Bea Kinzler. Organist was Anita Vogel. Congregational hymns were "Beneath The Cross of Jesus" and Angels From The Realm Of Glory". Buddy Brownfield and Dawn Sims sang "Amazing Grace". Caring for the flowers were Carolyn Brownfield, Joyce Brownfield and Jean Brownfield. Attending the memory register was Roberta Hutt. Usher was Frank Manes. Honorary casket bearer was Mike Longcor. Casket bearers were Gary Randle Brownfield, Philip Brownfield, Clayton Brownfield, Jeff Brownfield, Rudy R. Brownfield and Mike Rightsell. Interment was in the Blanchard Cemetery. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
