Mary Evalyn Saner was born on June 4, 1921, in rural Imogene, Iowa, the daughter of Joe and Maggie (Laughlin) Saner. Evalyn entered into rest on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Parkcrest Home.
Evalyn was raised on a farm in the Imogene area. She graduated in 1939 from St. Patrick's High School in Imogene. After graduation she attended Boyle's Business College in Omaha. She moved to Shenandoah after college.
Evalyn worked for Mt. Arbor Nurseries, Clarinda Production Credit Association, and retired from KMA Radio in 1986 after 45 years of service.
Evalyn was a life long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shenandoah. Some of her passions included woodworking, gardening, bowling, garage sales, Irish music and dance. She also enjoyed spending time with her great-nephew Brian Larson.
Evalyn was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Ambrose (Bro) Saner, John Saner and Lou Saner; sisters Angela Larson and Esther Johnson-Butler. Those left to honor her memory include her nieces and nephews Judy Halberson, Lou Saner, Jr. Rosalyn Martin, Sharon Baldwin, Ed Saner, Jane Gruber, Mike Saner, Cheryl Burkland, Linda Mason, Tom Saner, Denise Gurss, Bob Larson, Susan Etscheidt, Jim Larson, Arne Johnson, and Roger Johnson; other relatives and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Celebrant was Rev. Vern Smith. Lector was Arne Johnson. Attending the memory register was Lucille Lawson. Ushers were Kenny Gleason and Ned Dermody. Cantors were Jane Emge and Sue Hanna. Organist was Carolee Rees. Casket bearers were Roger Johnson, Arne Johnson, Louis Saner, Jr., Jim Larson, Bob Larson, Mike Saner and Tom Saner. Burial was in the Mount Calvary Cemetery at Imogene. Memorials are being directed to the family.
