Elmer Henry Hawk, the son of Ruben H. Hawk and Bessie Rosanna Johnson Hawk was born at Nishna Botna, Missouri on December 11, 1934and passed away at his home in Essex, Iowa on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at the age of 71.
Elmer was raised in the Nishnabotna and Rock Port, Missouri area, He attended school in Rock Port, Missouri. He entered the U.S. Army in 1953 serving in the Korean War. On June 29, 1979 he was united in marriage to Beatrice Olivia Mutchler at Rock Port, Missouri. After their marriage they resided in Shenandoah, Iowa. Elmer was a truck driver and worked construction, and retired from Henry Fields Nursery Company in 1989.
Elmer enjoyed fishing, hunting, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and family outings.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister, a brother, a stepson, four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, many aunts and uncles.
Survivors include his two brothers, Roy Hawk and wife Joyce of Farragut, IA., Lawrence Hawk and wife Judy of Thurman, IA.; two sisters, Rosie Clark and husband Frank, of Hamburg, IA., Norma Hullett and husband Gary of Rock Port, Missouri; four step children, Russell Strange and wife Ruby of Shenandoah, IA., Regenea Esquivel of Shenandoah, IA., Connie McClarnon and husband Jimmie of Bedford, IA., Karen Smith and husband Rick of Gravity, IA.; sixteen grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; other relatives and friends.
Elmer passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at his home in Essex. Graveside funeral services were held on Friday, May 19, at 2:00 p.m. at the Dallas Center Cemetery, north of New Market, Iowa. Words of comfort were given by the Rev. Paul Brigham. Military rites were accorded by the Clarinda, Iowa, Sergy Post #98. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. A memorial is being established.
