Ella Louise (Nelson) McClintock, daughter of Clarence Sylvester and Jennie Kristina (Swanson) Nelson, was born August 24, 1918 at the family farm in rural Essex, Iowa. She passed away August 31, 2015 at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa at the age of 97.

Ella was born on the family farm 2 1/4 miles east of Essex where she attended country school. Her older sister helped her mother in the house and Ella worked outside with her father. Ella graduated from Essex High School with the class of 1935. After graduation she worked at Spurgeons and lived in Shenandoah.

On January 1, 1938 Ella was united in marriage to Riley McClintock at Riley's mother's home. They then started farming on two different farms east of Essex before moving to the home farm. In 1972 they built a home in Essex where Ella lived until March of this year when she moved into Good Samaritan in Red Oak for more care.

Ella worked beside Riley on the farm and also raised chickens. She dressed chickens and sold eggs along with helping with the milking and raising a garden.

Ella was a member of Franklin Grove Birthday Club. She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church Choir for 50 years and taught Sunday School. She also was a member of the Quilters Club at St. John's until her macular degeneration caused her to quit. Ella enjoyed working outside, especially on the tractor. She liked to travel and enjoyed working at the Blue Belle Lodge in South Dakota for several years in the 70's. She also baked and decorated wedding cakes for several years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Riley McClintock; daughter, Jane McComb; parents; and a sister.

Ella is survived by her son, Larry McClintock and wife June of Essex, IA; five grandchildren, Tammy Brand and husband Roger of Apache Junction, AZ, Brian McComb and wife Reggie of Lakewood, CO, Kristin Adkins and husband Dean of Shenandoah, IA, Chad McClintock and wife Amy of Essex, IA and Bert McClintock and wife Tia of Fairfax, IA; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two nieces and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Burial will be held at the Essex Cemetery in Essex, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family, St. John's Lutheran Church or Essex Fire and Rescue.
