Elizabeth Higgins, 56, passed away on December 24, 2008, at her home in Shenandoah following a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, July 30, at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. There is no scheduled visitation. Memorials are being directed to the family.


Elizabeth was born on February 28, 1952 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of John Richard and Grace (Carter) Woods. Elizabeth entered into eternal peace on December 24, 2008 at her home in Shenandoah, Iowa.

She spent her early years in Imogene and Hamburg. She attended school and graduated from Hamburg High School. On April 2, 1972 she was united in marriage to Richard Higgins. For 35 years, Elizabeth was employed at Mount Arbor Nursery in Shenandoah, Iowa until declining health moved her into retirements.

Elizabeth was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and reading books. Even though Elizabeth is no longer with us, her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those whose lives she touched.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Richard; daughters Sheila Higgins and Geraldine Gomez; son John Higgins; grandchildren; Adriana, Andrea, Aleigha and Anthony Gomez, Ray Liles and Megan, Jessy, Frankie and Christopher Rodriguez; brothers Meryl, Robert and Richard Woods; other relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
