Edna Mae (McDonald) Runyan was born on February 8, 1919 in Rural College Springs, Iowa, the daughter of Bert and Anna Elizabeth (Smiley) McDonald. Edna entered into eternal rest on Wednesday evening, March 9, 2011 at the Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Edna's early years were spent in the College Springs area where she attended school. She graduated from high school with the Class of 1936. On June 12, 1941 she was united in marriage to Winston Runyan in rural Coin, Iowa. The couple later lived in Kansas City, KS and Maryville, MO before settling down on their farm in Coin, IA.

Before she was married Edna worked for Henry Fields Nursery. After her marriage to Winston she became a loyal and dedicated wife and mother. She worked along side her husband on the farm, doing whatever tasks were needed to be done. She enjoyed cooking, doing needlework and reading. She was a longtime member of the Coin United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Winston; a sister Maribel Colter; and brother Harold McDonald.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sons Alan Runyan and wife Lynn of Loveland, CO and Boyd Runyan and wife Carolyn of Castlerock, CO; granddaughters Alyssa McConkey of Loveland, CO and Amber McConkey of Fort Collins, CO; great-granddaughter Ayden Meikel of Fort Collins, CO; sister-in-law Eileen McDonald of Shenandoah, IA; niece Nancy Anderson of Coin, IA; and special friends Alan and Patricia Vogel of Coin.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Shenandoah Fire and Rescue Department.
