E. Joan Demanett Pace, daughter of Cecil and Marguerite (Fritz) Ballain, was born on August 14, 1938 in Emerson, Iowa. She passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at the age of 79 in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Joan grew up in the southwest Iowa area, attending Shenandoah Community Schools. She graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1955.
On September 10, 1955 Joan was united in marriage with Arthur Dow Demanett (deceased.) They were blessed with four children; Kevin, Timothy, David and Julia. They were married 32 years prior to divorcing. Joan married Virgil Pace in 1996. He preceded her in death.
Joan's early careers included working at the hospital in Shenandoah, as well as Central Surveys. She spent the majority of her career as a real estate broker, owning a real estate company in Shenandoah. In her later years, she managed apartment buildings in both Kansas City and Omaha.
Joan enjoyed numerous activities including sewing, baking and volunteering with various children's, women's and community groups. Above all, Joan's greatest joy were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joan was a member of the Altrusa Women's Group, American Legion Ralston NE Post, BPW Group, as well as being a Girl Scout leader and Sunday school teacher.
Proceeding Joan in death were her parents, her husbands, four siblings; Robert, Raleigh, Charles and Catherine. She is survived by her four children; Kevin (Kathy) Demanett of Omaha, NE, Timothy Demanett of Des Moines, IA, David (Jane) Demanett of Johnston, IA and Julia (Daniel) Anderson of Shenandoah, IA; five grandchildren; Stefanie (Marty) Barrett of Omaha NE, Kristin Demanett of Madison, WI, Whitney (Tracy) Haack of Fairmont, NE, Stephen Demanett of Omaha, NE and Brenton Demanett of Omaha, NE; eight great grandchildren; Maggie, Charlie, Henry, Trenton, Madison, Warren, Skylen and Isaiah; five siblings; Jack (Deanna) Ballain of Shenandoah, IA, Sharon (Ron) Newby of Nebraska City, NE, Mary (Walter) Yenney of Plattsmouth, NE, Colleen (Don) Poggemeyer of Nebraska City, NE and Tony (Cathy) Ballain of Shenandoah, IA; other relatives and friends.
Celebration of life memorial service will be held 11:00 am, Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the First Presbyterian Church in Shenandoah.
Memorials may be directed to the Parkinson's Association or the Alzheimer's Association.
