Duane Eldon West, age 73, of Farragut, Iowa passed away April 27, 2012 at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Duane was born September 4, 1938 in Shenandoah, Iowa to Everett and Feanette (Thompson) West.
Duane lived his whole life in Farragut literally just one block on the same street. He graduated from Farragut High School with the Class of 1957. While in high school Duane was involved in Track and Field. After high school Duane enlisted in the United States Army Reserves from 1957-1960, he received his basic training in Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri.
On September 3, 1961 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Stake in Shenandoah, Iowa. Duane was the owner of Duane E. West Trucking from 1957-2011 until his third heart attack prohibited him from continuing doing the job that he loved. Duane was a member of the Farragut Jaycees. He enjoyed buying jackets, his dog, Ruff, and living life to the fullest.
Duane was preceded in death by his son Randal Brice West; father Everett West; brother-in-law Jack Stake; sister-in-law Beverly Almquist; other relatives CJ Almquist, Coes and Lois Stake.
Duane will be sadly missed by his wife Carolyn West of Farragut, IA; daughter Marlene Huggins of Newton, IA; son Gary West of Ankeny, IA; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; mother Feanette West of Overland Park, KS, brother Bud West of Maryville, MO; sister Evelyn West of Olathe, MO; other relatives and a host of friends.
