Obituary

Duane M. Lorimor, son of Joseph E. and Grace E. (Myers) Lorimor, was born on November 1, 1937, at the family home in rural Fremont, County, Iowa. He entered into rest on Friday, April 4, 2014 at his home in Shenandoah, Iowa, at the age of 76, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family when the Lord took his hand.

Duane grew up on the family farm near Imogene, Iowa. He attended the Farragut Community Schools, graduating from Farragut High School with the Class of 1956. Duane enlisted in the United States Army in 1960 where he served in Germany before being honorably discharged in 1962. He then served as an Army Reservist from 1962 through 1964.

On July 6, 1973, Duane was united in marriage to love of his life, Evelyn K. (Ryan) Hopp, in Shenandoah. Following their marriage they made their home in Shenandoah.

On March 22, 1965, Duane began working for Earl May Seed and Nursery, where he worked until his retirement on November 1, 1999. He was a member of the Shenandoah American Post #88 and the United Methodist Church. His favorite colored tractors were green. He loved his John Deere tractors. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening in his spare time.

Preceding Duane in death were his parents, Joe and Grace Lorimor; father and mother-in-law, Donald and Blanche Ryan; four brother-in-laws, Merrill Skinner, Donald Ryan, James Ryan and Harry Cunningham; and a niece, Pamela Dobbs.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; four children, Shelly Hopp and Paul Head, Eve Jones, Michael and Marci Hopp, and Jolene Lorimor; four grandchildren, Tori, Zoey, Cyndi and Bruce; four great grandchildren; five sisters, Marvel Skinner, Marilyn Phipps and husband Richard, Merna Dobbs and husband Bill, LaVonne Johnson and husband Arlen, and Loraine Manchester and husband Eldon; four sister-in-laws, Shirley Cunningham, Joyce Wynn and husband Morris, Bev Ryan and Mary Ryan; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
