Doyle Leroy Racine, son of George Hugh and Ethel Marguerite (Howrey) Racine, was born on April 3, 1928, in rural Page County, Iowa. He passed away on Friday, February 1, 2008, at his home in Essex, Iowa, at the age of 79.

Growing up in Morton Township of Page County, Doyle attended White Cloud country school. He attended Shenandoah High School, graduating with the Class of 1946. Doyle, a lifelong farmer, started farming with his father before attaining his own ground to farm.

On October 8, 1950, Doyle was united in marriage to Kathryn E. Myers at the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah. To this union were born three children, Dennis, Douglas and Denise. Following their marriage they farmed west of Shenandoah in Fremont County for two years before moving to Essex. In addition to row crop farming, Doyle raised cattle and hogs in his early years. He also sold cars part-time in the winter at Select Motors in Shenandoah.

Doyle served in the Army Reserves with Company M in Shenandoah for several years around the time of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah and former member of the Masonic Lodge when they had Chapter in Essex. In his spare time, Doyle enjoyed golfing, boating and playing cards with family and friends. He also liked a good game of Solitaire.

Survivors include his wife of over 57 years, Kathy Racine of the home; his three children, Dennis Racine and his wife Lori, Doug Racine and his friend Laura, all of Essex and Denise Anderzhon of Shenandoah; six grandchildren, Johnathon, Jesselyn and Anthony Racine and Edie, Kurtis and Daniel Anderzhon; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, February 4, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah. Words of Comfort were given by Pastor Jerry Lamb. "How Great Thou Art" and "One Day At A Time" were song by Edie Anderzhon accompanied by Becky Hoenshel on the Organ. Janet Burnison attended the Memory Register. Caring for flowers was Elaine Ohnmacht. Casket Bearers were Kurtis Anderzhon, Daniel Anderzhon, John Racine, Tom Troxel, Calvin Kinney, and Les Kirchert. Interment was in Essex Cemetery in Essex. A memorial fund in Doyle's name is being established. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
