Douglas Dean Adams, 75, of Shenandoah, Iowa, passed away surrounded by the memories of a life deeply connected to family, community, and service. Douglas was born on March 18, 1951, in Shenandoah, Iowa, to Ted and Lorraine Adams.

Doug was a proud graduate of Shenandoah High School, Class of 1969. He continued his education at Iowa Western Community College before earning his degree from Peru State College.

On June 25, 1977, Doug married Nova Adams in Lincoln, Nebraska. They later divorced on June 11, 1996, but continued to share a lasting family connection through their children Holly and Alyssa and grandchildren Abraham, Elijah, Scarlett, and Chloe.

Throughout his life, Doug dedicated himself through his work in counseling, corrections, and social services. He worked as a social worker in Nebraska City, served as a counselor in Tampa, Florida, worked as a counselor and case manager for the Nebraska Department of Corrections, and later served as a corrections officer in Clarinda, Iowa.

Doug was a member of Warren United Methodist Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. He loved being outdoors and took great pride in caring for his lawn and spending time outside. He enjoyed riding his bike on the trail, celebrating fireworks on the Fourth of July, and attending the Sidney Iowa Rodeo with his family each year, a tradition that began when he was a young boy. Doug especially loved his community, his daily routines, and the many conversations he shared with friends and neighbors around town while reminiscing about old memories and local history.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Lorraine Adams; grandparents Grace and Dutch Knight; and cousins Pat and Delmus Gutschenritter.

He is survived by his daughters, Holly Baynes and husband Robert Baynes of Elkhorn, Nebraska, and Alyssa Mattison and husband Zachary Mattison; grandchildren Abraham and Elijah Baynes, and Scarlett and Chloe Mattison; former wife Nova Adams, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Doug will be remembered for his love for his family, his love for his hometown, and the simple joys he found in everyday life.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at the Wabash Memorial Chapel on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 10:30 a.m.  Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery.  A luncheon will follow the burial at the Bricker Room inside the Shenandoah Safety Center.  Memorials are suggested to the family.
