Dorothy Travis' Obituary
Dorothy Selma (Krull) Travis was born on March 9, 1927 in Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of Henry J. and Frieda D. (Ideker) Krull, Jr. Dorothy went to be with her personal Savior Jesus Christ on September 16, 2009 at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Dorothy was baptized on March 27, 1927 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clarinda, Iowa by Rev. William Mull. Her confirmation took place on May 12, 1940 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Shenandoah, Iowa with Rev. E.M. Frentzel. From a young age, Dorothy's deep faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was of great importance to her. She attended grade school in a one room country school at Fulton School, in Douglas Township in Clarinda until her folks moved to a farm east of Shenandoah on March 1, 1935. She then transferred to Grant Township in Shenandoah and later to Shenandoah High School where she graduated with the Class of 1945.
On June 28, 1964 she was united in marriage to Delbert Travis. The couple was later divorced in 1975. During her working years she was employed by various chemical companies, first as a secretary/bookkeeper and later registering the confidential statements of formula and label directional copies for consumer use with the EPA in Washington D.C.
Dorothy was a faithful member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. She sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School (for over 30 years), served in the Walther League, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, and Altar Guild. Her faith in Jesus is what sustained her through the years. Some of her other interests included reading, embroidery, spinning wool, weaving, knitting, quilting, and making clothes. She also had a deep love for music, especially spiritual hymns, classical music, and the big band tunes.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister-in-law Mary Jean Krull.
Those left to cherish her memory include her brother Erwin Krull of Shenandoah; niece Carla Van Ingen and husband Dan of Milan, MO; nephews Kenneth Krull of Shenandoah and John Krull of Midland, TX; great-nephew and niece Dirk Van Ingen and Mary Kathryn Van Ingen; other relatives and many friends.
Memorials may be directed to the Shenandoah Library or the Lutheran Hour in St. Louis, Missouri.
