Obituary

Dorothy Jean (Dowell) Mannasmith was born on April 27, 1926 in Shenandoah, Iowa to Floyd and Viola Dowell. She passed away on December 8, 2009 at Goldenrod Manor Nursing Home in Clarinda Iowa.

Dorothy grew up on a farm east of Coin, Iowa and graduated from Coin Consolidated High School in 1944. She was united in marriage to William Andrew Mannasmith at the Presbyterian Church in Coin, Iowa on March 3, 1946 where they made their home in the Coin area for 59 years. After her husband's death, she lived in Forest Park Manor and the past three years had wonderful times and care at Goldenrod Manor in Clarinda.

Her great love was for music, which she passed on to her family and shared with Coin and other communities. She was active in the community of Coin by performing in many shows and serving on the Town Council, Library Board, and served as a promoter for the Coin Centennial Celebration. Dorothy taught sign language at Iowa Western Community College and shared the art of signing to many young people in various public schools. She was a faithful, lifetime member of the Coin Presbyterian Church, serving as the organist over 30 years and in recent years played for the Northboro Church and the Congregational Church of Farragut where she was currently a member. Her community service to the town of Coin and to her churches was immeasurable.

Preceding Dorothy in death were her husband, William Mannasmith ; her parents, Floyd and Viola Dowell; brother, Richard Dowell; brother, James Andrew Dowell; great granddaughter, Julia Ruth Braymen; special uncle, Milton Dowell.

Survivors include daughter, Dianne Braymen and her husband John of Urbandale, IA, ; son, Larry Mannasmith and his wife Rhonda of Maryville, MO.; daughter, Colene Doucette and partner Georgia Bichekas of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Erica and Neil Seeley, Noah and Lindsey Braymen; Vanessa and Tye Parsons, Hilary Mannasmith and fiance Ian Simmons;Tyler and Elizabeth Doucette, Robin and Chris Drennen; great grandchildren, Norah and Kieran Seeley; Lucy and Ellie Parsons; Jadyn, Jakob, Paige, and Chandler Doucette; Bailey and Eli Drennen; brother, George Dowell and wife Nellie; sister Marilynn Graham and husband Richard; sister in law, Berniece Dowell; special aunt, Mrs. Thelma Dowell; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. Her greatest passion in life was her family who loved her dearly and will miss her greatly.
