Dorothy A. (Castle) Blackburn was born on December 13, 1923, the daughter on Edward and Elizabeth (Marly) Castle. Dorothy entered into eternal peace on Tuesday evening, January 18, 2011 at the Elm Heights Care Center, with her loving husband at her side.

Dorothy's early years were spent in the community of Essex where she attended school. Following graduation she successfully completed nurses training. On August 11, 1943 she was united in marriage to Johnny Blackburn. The couple made the home in Shenandoah and had one son.

Dorothy worked for Hand Hospital as a nurse and later for Shenandoah Memorial Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Dorothy was an amazing cook who was always willing to try a new recipe. She loved to shop and had a pair of shoes to match every outfit in her closet. She also loved to travel and sightsee. Dorothy loved to capture family memories by taking photos at any and all occasions. She simply enjoyed taking care of everyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son John David Blackburn; and 9 siblings.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband Johnny; grandchildren Tony Blackburn and Tracy Klabunde and husband Todd and grandchildren Cory and Brittany Klabunde.
