Dorothy passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the Elm Heights Care Center.

Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. the Northboro United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Union Grove Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Northboro Betterment Club or the Northboro United Methodist Church

Dorothy Jean (Rosenbohm) Bayless was born December 30, 1929, on the family farm in Atchison County, Missouri. Her parents were Charles and Rosa (Cooper) Rosenbohm. Dorothy Jean entered into eternal peace on Saturday, April 28, 2018 in Shenandoah, at the age of 88.

The family moved to a different farm near Westboro, MO, where she started school. When she was in the fifth grade, the family moved to Northboro, IA. Dorothy played basketball for five years on the first team. She loved to play ball and was very good at it. The team went to state in 1946. She graduated from Northboro High School in May 1947.

On December 31, 1947, Dorothy was united in marriage to John Franklin Bayless. They were married at The Little Brown Church in Kolona, Iowa. The couple made their home in Northboro, until moving to Shenandoah in 2009. Together they raised their three sons, Daron, Dale, and Dennis. John and Dorothy enjoyed many dinners, holidays, and get-togethers with their siblings' families. There was always lots of fun and love. They enjoyed 65 years of marriage.

When the boys were young, Dorothy helped with Boy Scouts and Methodist Youth Fellowship. When the boys were older, she started working in Shenandoah. First at Coast to Coast for 22 years, then the Emporium, and finally at Fashions at Large, 35 years altogether. She enjoyed the people and loved her work. She spent countless hours working with the Northboro Betterment Club, and she and John enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle with their special Northboro friends.

Dorothy and John were in the antique business for many years, owning several booths in the area malls. The most recent was Finders Keepers Antique Mall (on Crossroads Drive I-29 and Hwy 2), where Dorothy also worked as an appraiser. They were regulars at auctions, enjoying the social time while looking for bargains. Dorothy's specialty was in dishes, and she was often called by friends for advice. While collecting antiques, they made many life-long friends.

Dorothy spent a lot of time in her kitchen, where she loved to cook and bake. She was well-known for her delicious dinners, homemade cinnamon rolls, pies, cookies, and many other "goodies." Dorothy loved being a wife, mother, and then a grandmother. She was the happiest when spending time with family.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her son Daron (1969), her husband John (2012), her sister Helen Richards, and her brother Wayne.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons Dale (Marilyn) and Dennis (Kathy), both of Shenandoah, and grandchildren Matthew Corey, Mark Bayless, Kiley (Nick) Wilson, and Drew Bayless, along with cousins, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends.
