Obituary

Dorothy Marie Barrett, daughter of Elmer J. and Nea Ellen (Andrews) Cooper was born March 24, 1921 in Riverton, IA. She passed away at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 1 day at the Golden Living Center in Plattsmouth, NE.

Dorothy moved to Shenandoah, IA, at the age of five and received her education through the Shenandoah School System. On July 6, 1938, Dorothy was united marriage with Ross William Barrett in Tabor, IA. To this union three children were born. Ronald Ross, Barbara Ann and Judy Marie. They made their home in Shenandoah, where Ross leased trucks to Tidy House. During her marriage Dorothy was a homemaker, bookkeeper and seamstress where she made many clothes for her children and grandchildren. For greater than 20 years Dorothy cared for her husband who had fallen ill to rheumatoid arthritis as well as taking on the responsibility of managing a large acreage and home.

Dorothy enjoyed crafting, quilting, crocheting and gardening, as well as being a Girl Scout leader for her two daughters. She was a devoted Sunday School teacher and member at the Church of the Nazarene, as well as a volunteer at Garden View and a member of Care Review for that facility.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Nea Cooper; sister, Mildred; husband, Ross; son, Ronald; and son-in-law, James Drake. Survivors include her two daughters, Barbara Moore and husband Dave of Papillion, NE, and Judy Drake of LaVista, NE; seven grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 9 great great grandchildren, plus three more to be born later this year. She is also survived by two brothers, Raymond (Bud) Cooper and wife Doris of Shenandoah, and Kenneth Cooper and wife Betty of Shelbyville, TX; and sister, Mary Lillie and husband Bob of Grand Junction, CO; other relatives and friends.

Whether calling Dorothy mom, grandma, sister, or friend, she touched each of us in a very special way and we will all miss her very much.

Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah, Iowa.
