Obituary

Doris Deane Sandquist, daughter of George Dille and Crissie Neva (Moore) DeWitt, was born April 19, 1925 in Elliott, Iowa. She entered in rest on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 88 years, 10 months, and 27 days.

Doris grew up on the family farm near Elliott, Iowa. She graduated from Elliott High School in 1942, and that same year she was united in marriage to Ross Wesley Sandquist on May 23, in Maryville, Missouri. Since Ross was in military service, Doris resided with her parents until his return.

Doris had many occupations, she was a farm wife, and stay at home mom in the early years. She then worked as a cook for Nishna Valley School, and was employed summers at 3-B Grocery in Emerson. She retired from UniRoyal/Parker Hannifin in Red Oak, Iowa.

Doris was a member of the Women's Church Group, PDQ Club, Square Dancing, various card clubs, Shenandoah Senior Center, Emerson Public Library, and Methodist Women's Group.

Doris had many interests and hobbies. She enjoyed her cardinal collection, watching and cheering on her favorite sports teams, the Kansas City Royals, Duke Blue Devils and Creighton Blue Jays. She also enjoyed reading and cooking, especially her famous chocolate chip bars, fudge and divinity.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Sandquist, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Diane Davidson of Shenandoah, Iowa, Dale Sandquist and wife Pam of Urbandale, Iowa, Darlene Howard and husband Denny of Shenandoah, Iowa, and Debbie Lehmer and husband Gary of Omaha, Nebraska, 10 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be directed to Shenandoah Senior Center or Shenandoah Athletic Department.
