Doris Madeline Perry, daughter of Lewis Lloyd and Vesta Regina (Walker) Reed, was born on October 27, 1922 in Braddyville, Iowa. She passed away on Monday, August 27, 2018 at the Legacy Gardens Special Memory Care in Iowa City, Iowa at the age of 95.

Doris was born on a farm between Braddyville and College Springs, the family then moved when she was a young child to a farm just north of Braddyville. She attended grade school through high school in Braddyville. She graduated from Braddyville High School in 1940 with 12 students in her class. She attended Northwest Missouri State Teacher's College in Maryville, MO for two years where she earned her teaching certificate. Doris also attended fashion design school for nine months in Chicago, IL in the mid-1940s, she was especially interested in the tailoring aspect of design. After college, she taught school for three years, two years at Percival, IA where Doris taught fourth grade, from there she went to Shenandoah and taught third and fourth grade at Central Grade School for one year.

Doris served her country in the U.S. Navy (WAVES), she began her service as WWII was coming to an end. She entered active service on June 14, 1945, went to boot camp in New York City (Naval Training School, Bronx, N.Y.), then went to Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, Maryland. Served as an office worker at a BOQ (Bachelor Officers' Quarters). She was Honorably Discharged on July 31, 1946. Stated on her honorable discharge papers: "Entitled to wear World War II Victory ribbon" and her rank was Storekeeper Third Class.

On December 14, 1947, Doris married Glendale Perry at the Braddyville United Methodist Church. They resided on a farm in Norwich; then later settled in the Northboro area.

Doris was a member of many organizations in the surrounding area including; a longtime active member of Northboro United Methodist Church, a longtime active member of Northboro United Methodist Women (UMW, formerly Women's Society of Christian Service); served as UMW President for 6 years, served as UMW Program Chair at the district level for 7 years, active in Christian Women's Club (CWC) located in Shenandoah for several years; served as CWC Program Chair for a few years, served as a Den Mother when son Gilbert was in Cub Scouts, served as a 4-H leader in the local 4-H Club when daughter Deborah was in 4-H; also served at the county level as a 4-H leader for several years and on the Shenandoah Public Library Board for 6 years. In addition to the above organizations, for many years Doris sewed most of her own and Deborah's clothing; she was an accomplished seamstress.

Preceded in death by her husband Glendale (2005), her parents and three brothers; Loyd, Mitchell and Lowell Reed.

Left to honor her memory includes her son Gilbert Perry and wife Clare of Portland, Oregon, daughter Deborah Perry Schoenfelder and husband Jim of Iowa City, Iowa, five grandchildren; Ellen Bageac, Reed Perry, Meghan Van Fleet, Scott Jensen, and Sarah Heinrich, thirteen great-grandchildren; Kendall Jensen, Kyler Jensen, Maddox Jensen, Tessa Heinrich, Cali Heinrich, Michael Heinrich, Alexandra Bageac, Catherine Bageac, Gabriella Bageac, Lily Perry, Sylvan Perry, Collin Van Fleet, and Olivia Van Fleet; and numerous other family and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Northboro United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Lewis officiating. A luncheon will follow in the Northboro Community Center.
