Doris Evelyn Naughton, daughter of Lindsey and Florence (Saunders) Foskett, was born on April 16, 1920 in Charlton, Massachusetts. She passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at the Elm Height Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 94.

Her early years were spent on the Foskett homestead and farm in Charlton, Massachusetts. She attended the Charlton Schools and graduated with the class of 1938. She graduated from Hunter College in 1943. In 1943, Doris entered the U.S. Navy and became a member of the Waves. She was stationed with U.S. Navy communications in Washington D.C. and Hawaii.

Doris was united in marriage to James J. Naughton on July 21, 1945 in Wahiawa, Oahu, Hawaii. They lived in Pocahontas, Iowa after being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy on November 3, 1945.

Doris had many occupations over the years. Before attending Hunter College, she worked for American Optical as a sales clerk, from 1943 until 1945 she worked for secret service in the U.S. Navy. In the 1980's she worked for Elderbridge Agency with the Manson tornado cleanup and later she worked for Iowa Job Service as an office assistant for two years, retiring in 1990.

Doris also was active in numerous clubs, organizations, church and community groups which included United Methodist Church, Hospital Auxiliary, Concerned Citizens, Red Cross Chair, Extension Services Committee, Mental Health Advisory Committee, started Care Review committee at Pocahontas Residential Manor, Congregate Meal Board, Hinde Community Center Committee, V.F.W., Town Election Committee, Senior Aide for Rep. Bedell and Senator Harkin Task Force. She was a participant in the 2011 Honor Flight which is an honor bestowed on veterans.

Doris enjoyed gardening especially flowers, baking, loved nature especially her birds, traveling and loved her friends and family.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Jim Naughton, parents Lindsey and Florence Foskett, sisters Millia and Jenny, brothers Dan and Lindsey, in-laws Art and Rose Naughton, and brother-in-law Jerry.

Those left to cherish Doris's memory include her sons Dennis Naughton and wife Gail of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and John Naughton and wife Cindy of Fargo, North Dakota, daughter Nancy Larson and husband Bob of Shenandoah, Iowa, brother-in-law Dick Naughton of Florida, nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, numerous other family and friends.

Burial with military rites was held at Calvary Cemetery in Pocahontas, Iowa
