Obituary

Doris Ellen (Dobernecker) Mauer passed away March 23, 2017 at Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa. Doris was born August 19, 1921 in Winside, Nebraska to Albert and Violet (Inman) Dobernecker. She was one of four children.

Doris grew up in the Hancock, Iowa area starting off her education in country school and graduating from Oakland, Iowa in 1938.

Doris was united in marriage to Donald Leslie Mauer in College Springs, Iowa. They were blessed with the birth of three children, Deloris, Donald, and Danny.

Doris and Don owned a caf in Hastings, Iowa where everyone loved her homemade cooking. Doris was pleased the railroad workers took their meal breaks at her caf. Doris and Don then moved to Coin in August of 1962 where they owned the Coin Grocery Store for 16 years. Her last enjoyable workplace was at Garden View Care Center as Dietary Supervisor.

Doris was an active member of the United Methodist in Coin and Shenandoah, Iowa. Doris loved cooking, baking, crocheting and spending time with her family, no one could top Doris's baking.

Doris was preceded in death by husband Donald Leslie Mauer, parents Albert and Violet (Inman) Dobernecker, siblings Albert William Dobernecker, Darlene (Albert) Webster.

Doris is survived by her children; Deloris (Ron) Simmonds of Evanston, WY, Don (Karen) Mauer of Oregon, MO and Dan (Gloria) Mauer of Essex, IA, grandchildren; Mark (Katie) Simmonds of St. Louis, MO, Elizabeth (Curtis) Fisher of Strongsville, OH., Craig Mauer of St. Joseph, MO, Steve (Jenny) Mauer of St. Joseph, MO, Paula (Jeff) Richter of Savannah, MO, Laura (Josh) Bowen of Imogene, IA and Brad (MacKenzie) Mauer of Red Oak, IA, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, sister Joyce (Larry) Bethel of OK, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Celebration of life funeral service will be held 11:30 am, Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah.

Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to service from 10:30 am until 11:30 am, Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah.

Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church of Shenandoah.

Burial will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.
