Donna Jean Johnson, daughter of Charles Lloyd and Sara Etta (Johnson) Coston, was born August 2, 1930 in Yorktown, Iowa. She passed away on October 10, 2015 at Oakland Manor in Oakland, Iowa. She was 85 years old.
Donna spent her early years living and receiving her education in Northwest Missouri and Southwest Iowa. On August 5, 1950 she married William Herschel Johnson in Quitman, Missouri. They resided in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Donna had numerous jobs during her lifetime. She worked as a nurse's aide at the old Shenandoah Hand Hospital; bookkeeper for various local businesses; as a dental assistant/secretary; was a consultant/sales representative for companies such as Avon, Minnesota Woolens and Tri-Chem Fabric Paints; was a cashier for the Shenandoah Hy-Vee Supermarket; and as a cook/bookkeeper for three local restaurant (the Shamrock Caf, the Heritage House and lastly for the Depot Deli) before she retired in her mid-70's. For short periods of time she also operated at least three arts and crafts shops in Shenandoah.
Donna was a member of Skidmore Missouri Christian Church. Club memberships included a year in Shenandoah's VFW Auxiliary. At one time, she was also a member of the OK Kegler Bowling League in Shenandoah. Donna enjoyed working crossword puzzles, reading (she never read the same book twice, being able to recall story line and plot even ten years later), movies, and watching TV. When she was younger she enjoyed bowling and roller skating.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband William H. Johnson, granddaughter Aurora D. Miller, parents Charles L. and Sara E. Coston, sisters Anita Charlene Brunk and Lois Yvonne Bowenkamp.
Donna is survived by her children Janice D. Johnson, Kristin A. Bennett, Bill Johnson, and Dean Johnson and wife Barbara (Snow) all of Shenandoah, Iowa, uncle Melburn "Mick" Johnson of Shenandoah, Iowa, seven grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, a great-great granddaughter, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
Burial will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah, Iowa.
