Donald Gerhard Rolf, son of Arthur Gerhard and Mary Elizabeth (Walter) Rolf, was born August 2, 1924 near Northboro in Washington Township, Page County, Iowa. He passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Born near Northboro in Washington Township, Page County, Iowa. Lived in Fremont County for 4 years before moving to the Clarinda area. Donnie attended schools in Clarinda until his sophomore year. He then moved to his present rural homestead in Morton Township, southeast of Shenandoah, where he graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1942. Due to his brothers, Walter and Raymond serving in the military, Donnie stayed home to farm with his Dad (Mom believes it was called deferred service - not all sons could serve at the same time).

On June 18, 1950, Donald was united in marriage to Faye Augusta Headley at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Northboro, Iowa. Donnie and Faye were married in a double ceremony with Donnie's brother, Walter, and his wife Jeanne (Howland) Rolf. They have lived in the same farm home for 65 years, and Faye still resides there. Donnie was a self-employed farmer who raised corn, soybeans, oats, clover, hay, and seed corn as well as livestock consisting of cattle, hogs, sheep, chickens, horses and polled Hereford bulls. He also grew sweet corn, potatoes, and other vegetables in their large garden.

Donnie was a life-long, active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church (his ancestors helped found the church). He was a 4-H member, leader and alumni and was recognized in the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame. He also was a member of the Iowa Farm Bureau. He enjoyed gathering with his graduating class members of 1942 for lunch on the third Thursday of each month. Donnie and Faye also enjoyed monthly "Neighborhood Supper Card Parties" where they would join 4-5 other neighboring farm couples to have a potluck supper and play "Pitch" well into the evening. Donnie also enjoyed picnics whether it be for the annual St. Paul's church picnic at Waubonsie State Park or a family picnic at McComb's Park in Shenandoah.

Donnie enjoyed woodworking and repairing farm equipment. He also enjoyed "inventing" tools or products to make farm life easier - he even submitted some of these ideas to farm publications such as Successful Farming and Wallaces Farmer and had one of these inventions published in one edition of Successful Farming. He loved to read all kinds of farm publications and newspapers. Of special note, Donald's family was selected as the WOWT Farm Family of the Week and appeared on WOWT Channel 6 midday news program in Omaha hosted by Farm Director, Arnold Peterson, on February 9, 1979. Unfortunately, the interview was cut short due to a plane crash at Offutt Air Force Base. He also enjoyed attending and supporting his children's and grandchildren's many sports, school and 4-H activities for over 45 years.

Donnie was preceded in death by his parents Arthur G. and Mary E. Rolf, brother and sister-in-law Raymond Rolf and wife Betty Mae, sister-in-law Jeanne Rolf and brother-in-law Harold Scott.

Donnie is survived by his wife Faye A. Rolf of rural Shenandoah, three children: son Lonnie Eugene Rolf and wife Debra of Sycamore, Illinois, son Terence Gerheart Rolf and wife Patti of rural Northboro, Iowa and daughter Suzanne Marie Boon and husband Mark of Parker, Colorado, five grandchildren Bethany (Rolf) Escamilla and husband Noe of Sycamore, Illinois, Sarah Rolf of Sycamore, Illinois, Allison Rolf and friend Harold Coverdell of Wi11mar, Minnesota, Jennifer Baker and husband Jason of Des Moines, Iowa. and Andrew Rolf of rural Northboro, Iowa, four great-grandchildren Elijah and Aaron Escamilla of Sycamore, Illinois and Vivian and Nora Baker of Des Moines, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.

Burial will be held at the St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery.
