Donald Lee Reed, son of James Olen and Bessie (Flynn) Reed was born on July 11, 1937, in Iowa City, Iowa. He passed away at his home in Shenandoah on Saturday, March 18, 2006, following a lengthy bout with cancer. Donald was 68 years of age.
Raised in Shenandoah, Donald received his education from the Shenandoah Community Schools. In 1961, Donald was united in marriage to Nola N. Truex-Smith. He was a cement mason by trade. Donald worked with his father, Ole, in masonry, Clarks-Stanley Cement, Carl Hale, Western Engineering and Blue Star over the years. He later worked in the lumberyard at United Building Center (UBC) and for Toby Kalkas for four years. Donald had last worked for D. A. Allbee & Son Heating & Cooling for 15 years.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, bird watching, cooking and helping people when needed.
Preceding Donald in death were his parents, Bessie and Ole Reed; twin brother, Ronald Reed and brother, Robert "Bob" Reed. Survivors include his children, Renee Robison of Keswick, Iowa; Randy Reed Smith of Erie, Pennsylvania and Annette Noska, in Texas; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Memorial services were held on Friday, March 24, 2006, at 7:00 p.m. at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah. The eulogy was given by Renee Robison.
