Donald Leslie Mauer, son of Leslie George and Florence Bridget (Lynch) Mauer, was born on June 2, 1919 near Minden, Iowa. Donald entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 29, 2010 at the Garden View Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa. He had attained the age of 90 years, 10 months and 27 days.
Donald grew up on the family farm near Minden, Iowa. He attended country school outside of Minden. He had two siblings, Dareld Mauer and Donna Rae Madole.
On December 19, 1939 Don was united in marriage to Doris Ellen Dobernecker in College Springs, Iowa. To this union three children were born; Deloris, Donald and Dan.
Donald farmed and did custom work. He and Doris owned filling stations and a caf, where Doris did all of the baking. Before retiring in 1979, Don and Doris ran the Coin Grocery Store for 16 years.
In his spare time and later in retirement, Donald enjoyed fishing, doing woodcrafts, gardening and reading the Bible. One of his favorite TV shows was Wheel of Fortune. He particularly enjoyed family fishing trips to Minnesota and Missouri.
Preceding Donald in death were his parents; brother, Dareld; and sister, Donna. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of over 70 years, Doris of Shenandoah. His three children, Deloris and her husband Ron of Evanston, Wyoming and their two children Mark and Elizabeth; Donald E. Mauer and his wife Karen of Oregon, Missouri and their three children Craig, Steve and Paula; and Dan Mauer and his wife Gloria of rural Essex and their two children, Laura and Brad. Don was also blessed with 13 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
