Obituary

Donald W. Bettis, 85, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2009 at the Manor of Malvern in Malvern, Iowa. Donald was born January 31, 1923 to Beulah (Bussard) and Virgil Bettis in Shenandoah, Iowa. Donald grew up and went to school in Shenandoah.
Donald served in the U.S. Army from January 1943 through January 1946.
On September 27, 1958, Donald was united in marriage to Winifred Kellison. Following their marriage they made their home in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Donald was a member of the Shenandoah American Legion Post #88. He drove a school bus for the Shenandoah Community School district and painted houses for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Donald is survived by three step-sons, LeRoy (Norma) Kellison, Ron (Ann) Kellison of Tucson, AZ, Roger (Carol) Kellison of Plattsmouth, NE; seven step-grandchildren; nine step-great grandchildren; and one step great-great-grand child; two sisters, Shirley (Jim) Perkins of Mountain Grove, MO, and Connie (Ed) Perkins of Shenandoah, IA; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife Winifred, his parents Beulah Leitzen and Virgil Bettis, brother Daryl Bettis, and step grandsons Tony Kellison and Mark Kellison.

Graveside Services were held at 2:00 p.m. at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah, Iowa with Rev. JoAnn Johnson officiating. Military Rites were conducted by the Shenandoah American Legion Post #88. Serving as casket bearers were Roger Kellison, Ron Kellison, Ed Perkins, David Spangler, Harley Greenwalt and Vaughn Livingston.
