Donald "Don" Raymond Skalberg son of Raymond and Mary Rita (Regan) Skalberg was born February 10, 1948 in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed away February 2, 2014 in Afton, Iowa.

Don was adopted by Ray and Rita Skalberg at the age of three months. At the age of five years Don was diagnosed with a mental disability. In his early life, Don lived on a farm near Emerson, Iowa. He moved with his family to Walker, Minnesota then to Corning, Iowa where his parents owned and operated the Sunset Motel. Don went to Corning Public School System and Glenwood Special Education Facility.

As teen and young adult, Don worked at the family owned business The Sunset Motel in Corning, Iowa. In 1981 Don moved to Creston, Iowa where he worked for Innovative Services (an assembly provider utilizing various disabled/handicapped employees). Don worked for Innovative Services until his retirement in 2012.

Don was a very proud member of 30+ years with the Alcoholics Anonymous. He felt his greatest achievement was when he received his 25 year medallion from AA.

Don loved to fish, and vacation with his family and relatives at Leach Lake, Minnesota. Then stop on the way home at Arnolds Park in Okoboji, Iowa. He also loved to tell stories of his life. His #1 love was The New York Yankees baseball team. He enjoyed watching old movies, especially old Westerns with John Wayne. He loved to listen to music, his favorites were Elvis and Johnny Cash.

Don was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Rita Skalberg. And is survived by numerous cousins.

Burial will be in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Imogene.

Memorials are being directed to the family.
