Diann Metz's Obituary
Mary DiAnn Metz was born June 6, 1951 in Nebraska City, Nebraska to Edward Mincer and Greta Elizabeth (Boettner) Mincer. DiAnn graduated from Tarkio High School in Tarkio, Missouri. She earned a B.S. degree in Music from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.
DiAnn was united in marriage with Michael Metz at Westboro, Missouri on June 27, 1975. They are the parents of three children: Heather, Nathan and Sean.
DiAnn was a devoted wife, mother, and teacher. She taught instrumental music, vocal and piano for over 35 years. DiAnn most recently taught at the St. James School in Washington, Iowa and Salem School of the Mt. Pleasant School District. In addition to being a helpmate to her husband and his ministry, she was an accomplished pianist and often played for the 5:00 p.m. service at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield. She was a member of Kiononia and P.E.O. She enjoyed all outdoor activities and had a real love for nature. DiAnn especially enjoyed hiking, bird watching, flower gardening and cooking. She baked delicious chocolate chip cookies.
DiAnn is survived by her husband, Rev. Michael Metz of Fairfield and the children, Heather Metz of Denver, CO, Nathan Metz of Omaha, NE, and Sean Metz of Des Moines, IA as well as her parents, Edward Mincer of Hamburg, IA and Greta "Liz" Lyden of Rock Port, MO, and siblings, Gary Mincer of Cape Canaveral, FL, Craig Mincer of Lake Toxaway, NC, Kerry Sue Scardina of Omaha, NE, and David and Marty Mincer, both of Hamburg, IA.
Her memory will be cherished by her family, students, and many friends.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah, Iowa. Words of comfort were given by Rev. Carl Phillips and Rev. Clark Finehout. Organist, Carol Golden accompanied soloist, Becca Cusick who sang, "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" and "Pass It On". Congregational hymns included "Leaning On The Everlasting Arms" and "Hymn Of Promise". Usher for the service was Jim Sligar. Casket bearers were Gary Mincer, Craig Mincer, David Mincer, Marty Mincer, Ron Manrose, Jack Scardina, Dustin Barnes and Jason Manrose. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
