Dennis D. Tillman, was born on July 22, 1943 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the son of Orville Lawson and Virginia Marie (Hutt) Tillman. Dennis entered into eternal peace on Thursday, July 13, 2023 at this home in Shenandoah. He was just 9 days shy of his 80th birthday.
Dennis was raised on the family farm outside of Essex. He attended country school prior to completing middle school and high school in Essex. He graduated from Essex High School with the Class of 1961.
On July 7, 1984 he was united in marriage to Rosamond Davis at the New Testament Church of Christ in Shenandoah. The couple was blessed with 39 years of marriage. Dennis had a true passion for farming which he was involved with his entire life. He was an enlisted member of the Iowa Army National Guard. During his years of service he was the Unit Administer in Shenandoah and also served as a recruiter for Southwest Iowa. He also served his unit part time as an Infantryman. He retired after 24 years of service. He also worked at Sutherlands Lumber, Avco Finance, Mid-Continent Bottlers and Pella Windows.
Dennis had a passion for woodworking, hunting and fishing, He was a volunteer Range Safety Officer at the Pierce Creek Gun Range. He had great respect and admiration for the fellow volunteer officers that he worked with. He enjoyed working with the public and offering them advice on weapon use and safety. Dennis also had an incredible interest in American History and enjoyed traveling throughout the United States to visit areas of historical interest. Time spent at the family farm with his dog Nez by his side brought in great joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Dawn (Tillman) Millikan; and brother Marlin Tillman. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Rosamond Tillman; sons Doug Tillman and wife Teri, Todd Carr and John Tillman; 3 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sister-in-law Mary Jo Tillman; other relatives and a host of friends.
