David met his wife Evelyn Sue Johnson at their small town church in  Imogene and began dating in 1956.  They were united in marriage on May 24, 1960 in Farragut.  Their union was blessed with the birth of two children Brian LeRoy and Miriam Beth.    They lived briefly for that summer in Maryville before David accepted a job with the Omaha School District where he taught math from 1960-1964.  In 1965 he began working for the Armour Meat Company in quality control.  In 1968 he was transferred to Memphis, Tennessee.  In 1979 he was again transferred to Garland, Texas by Armour to Decker Meat Company working as a Chemist until he retired after 29 years of service to the company.  The couple returned to Shenandoah to enjoy their retirement years. David was a member of the United Methodist Church in Shenandoah.  For nine years the couple were foster parents to eight children; Bryan, Sammie, Jennifer, Rafaela, Helen, Diana, Ashley and Gilberto.   David entered into eternal peace on Friday, January 21, 2022 at his home.

He was preceded in death by his son Brian LeRoy Kinney, his parents Harold Kinney and Beatrice Patterson, step-father Brice Patterson, step-brother David Patterson and his father and mother-in-law Armon and Okie Johnson.  Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 61 years and 8 months Evelyn Sue, daughter Miriam (Ron) Plowman of Grand Prairie, TX daughter-in-law Teresa Kinney of Garland, TX, grandsons David (Lauren) Kinney, Mark (Desiree) Kinney and Lance (Sarah) Plowman all of Texas, great-grandchildren Olivia, Elodie, Alice and Aiden all of Texas,  brothers-in-law Eddie (Pat) Johnson of Corning, IA, Dale Guill of Branson, MO, Emmet Johnson of Shenandoah and Roger Doppelhammer of Ely, MN,  sisters-in-law Kay (Leon) McEnaney of Shenandoah, IA, Ronda (Jim) Shane of Mayetta, KS and Mary (Stephen) Walter of Greenwood, FL, step-brother Chester Patterson, other family and many friends.
