David passed away on Monday afternoon, July 31, 2023 at the Shenandoah Medical Center.

David Allan Oberg, the oldest son of first generation Swedish American parents Allan and Luella (Hilt) Oberg, was born December 11, 1944 in Moline Illinois, where Allan was working at the Rock Island Arsenal during WWII. The Oberg's moved to Essex, Iowa shortly after David's birth, where Allan worked as the manager for Farmers Telephone Company. David grew up in Essex, where he participated in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. David was a member of the Order of the Arrow thru the Boy Scouts. In school David played basketball, football and the tuba. He graduated from Essex High School in 1964 and joined the Iowa National Guard, serving in several units across the state. He retired from the National Guard as a Sergeant First Class after 23 years of service.

David worked in the insurance business after completing basic training and met a young lady who moved to Essex with her parents just up the street from the Oberg family. He married that young lady, Rita Asklof on October 22, 1966 in St. John's Lutheran Church in Essex. Shortly after their marriage, David began working for the Graham department stores as an assistant store manager and later store manager. This job took them to various cities throughout Iowa including; Atlantic, Maquoketa, Oskaloosa, Storm Lake, and Independence were their children were born. Lane was born in 1970 and Eric was born in 1975. Later that year, the family moved back to Essex, where David worked for several manufacturing jobs before becoming an over the road truck driver for over 20 years.

Scouting was reintroduced into their lives. David served as a scoutmaster, Rita served in far too many scouting positions and their sons spent many years in the scouting program. David enjoyed camping and the outdoors. He also was handy at fixing most things, not sure if he enjoyed it or not, but he had a lot of tools to fix things. David was a member in good standing of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Allan and Luella (Hilt) Oberg. David will be missed by his wife Rita Oberg; sons Lane & Brandi Oberg and Eric & Dawn Oberg; grandchildren Corbin, Jacob, Mason, Austin, Sean, Clarissa, Alexander (Xander), and Peter; his younger brother Paul and his wife Claudia Oberg and many other relatives and friends.
