Dave G.
Ponton
Dec 30, 1941 — Aug 13, 2021
Shenandoah
On December 30, 1941 in Elgin, Nebraska David George Ponton was born to George and Dixie (Johnson) Ponton. Dave entered into eternal peace on Friday, August 13, 2021 at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska.
Dave graduated from St. Boniface High School with the Class of 1959. Following graduation he worked at Duncan Hines in Omaha before joining the United States Air Force in 1964. He served his country with pride and was honorably discharged in 1967.
Dave later moved to Shenandoah in 1969 and founded Select Motors with his brother-in-law Frank Prorok until he moved on in 1974. He had a passion for selling cars and enjoyed the lifelong friendships that he made with his clients. On March 7, 1970 he was united in marriage to Pamela Jackson at St. Mary's Catholic Church. This union was blessed with five children Stacey, Amy, Shawn, Jeff and Nikki.
Dave was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, was a 51 year member of the Shenandoah Elks Lodge, was a 50 year member of the Shenandoah American Legion and belonged to the Shenandoah Chamber of Commerce. He always enjoyed supporting the Open Door Mission, the Shenandoah Community Food Pantry and St. Mary's Catholic Church. Giving back to those in need was very important to him. When one thinks of Dave you can't help but remember his love and passion for Notre Dame football. He was a true fan through and through. He loved spending time with his family, catching up with his many friends and always enjoyed sharing a good joke.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Timothy, sister Beverly; and in-laws Russell and Wilma Jackson. Those left to honor his memory and to carry on his legacy for years to come include his wife Pamela; children Stacey (Jeff) Burson of Surprise, AZ, Amy (Steve) Vance of Atlantic, IA, Shawn (Jasmine) Ponton of Mesa, AZ, Jeffrey Ponton of Sidney, IA and Nikki (Mike) Kohagen of Ankeny, IA; brother James Ponton of Reno, NV; sister Joyce Valdivia of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren Zachery and Zane Vance, Bennett Archer, Henry and Oliver Kohagen and Embry Ponton; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be directed to the Shenandoah Community Food Pantry or The Open Door Mission in Omaha.
