Obituary

Daryl John Monson was born on November 7, 1948 in Red Oak, Iowa, the son of Ted and Marjorie Monson. Daryl entered into eternal peace on September 11, 2009 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Daryl grew up in Red Oak, Fort Dodge, and Essex, Iowa. He attended Essex Community Schools from 1961 to 1964 and received his GED in the United States Army in 1968.

He served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970. He attended guided missiles school in Fort Bliss, Texas and was stationed in Germany from 1968 to 1969. Daryl's missile group was in position when Russia invaded Czechoslovakia in 1968 to prevent Russian incursion into Germany.

After discharge from the Army, he returned to Essex and was employed at Thomas D. Murphy Company and Douglas Lomason in Red Oak. In November of 1972, Daryl married Carmen Ebersole of Imogene. They later divorced in 1986.

In 1979 Daryl was seriously injured in an automobile accident. After rehabilitation at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, he resided in Essex and Red Oak. Daryl moved to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown in September of 1997.

Daryl enjoyed fishing, mechanical work and leather crafters. While at the Veterans Home, he attended a weekly arts and crafts class and made leather items, greeting cards, and decorative pins for his family.

He was preceded in death by his father Ted in March of 1991. Those left to cherish is memory include his mother Marjorie of Essex, daughters Carrie Monson of Nebraska City, Sherry Clark, and Christine Quezada both of Shenandoah; 5 grandchildren, sisters Susan and Lori of Essex and brother Richard of Lafayette, Colorado.
