Darrell Lee Whitehill was born on March 3, 1923, the son of Lee and Annie (Tyner) Whitehill in Northboro, Iowa. Darrell entered into eternal rest on February 1, 2012 at the Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska at the blessed age of 88 years.

Darrell's early years were spent in the Northboro community. He attended Northboro School where he played basketball and graduated high school. On January 19, 1943 Darrell enlisted in the Army Air Force. He served overseas during WWII, where he met and married his beloved wife, Dorothy Barlow on September 1, 1945 in Warrington, England. Darrell later received an honorable discharge on April 25, 1946.

Darrell owned and operated Whitehill Feed and Milling from 1946 until 1971. He then went to work at Eaton's where he served as a foreman from 1971 until he retired in 1988, to care for his wife Dorothy who had fallen ill. He was a dedicated member of the Northboro United Methodist Church. Darrell was a devoted father who worked hard to provide for his family. He enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and spending time with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Annie; step-mother Opal; his loving wife, Dorothy; brothers, Kenneth and Boyd; son-in-law, James Kay; and sister-in-law, Nancy Whitehill.

Those left to honor his memory include his two children, Darice Kay and Al Whitehill and wife Linda; three grandchildren, Michelle Schmoelzer and husband Reinhard, Michael Kay and Allie Wertz and husband Adam; three great-grandchildren, Alexander Kay and Ian and Evan Schmoelzer; six brothers, Donald Whitehill and wife Elaine, Duane Whitehill and wife Gwyneth, Harold Dinsmore and wife Eloise, Jim Whitehill, Leroy Whitehill and wife Lorene and Bob Whitehill and wife Ina Rhea; two sisters, Barbara Taylor and husband Junior and Darlene Harbin; many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

Memorials are being directed to the Northboro United Methodist Church.
