Obituary

Darrell Wayne Spangler, son of Clarence Cornelius and Pearl Loveday (Bullock) Spangler, was born on August 14, 1926 on the family farm in Blanchard, Iowa. He passed away on November 16, 2017 at the Maryville Living Center in Maryville, Missouri at the age of 91.

Darrell was born and raised on a farm around Blanchard, Iowa until the age of 4. The family then moved to Parnell, Missouri. He helped on the family farm growing up. He then worked at Mount Arbor Nursery in Shenandoah for 37 years; also working as a farm hand for local farmers. In 1947 he married Betty Steinman. They were divorced in 1951. They had one daughter Vera Spangler.

In 1951 he moved to Essex, Iowa. On June 15, 1955 he married Lois Ann Nelson, they lived in Coin, Iowa before moving to Norwich, Iowa in 1958. He lived in Norwich until December 2016 when he moved into Westridge Nursing Home in Clarinda, Iowa. He lived in Clarinda until September 2017, when he was transferred to Maryville Living Center in Maryville, Missouri.

Darrell enjoyed John Wayne movies. He also enjoyed woodworking; he made toy wooden barns for the grandsons and made toy doll wooden cribs for the granddaughters.

Preceding Darrell in death are his daughters Vera Jane Spangler and Darla Jolene Spangler, parents Clarence and Pearl Spangler, sister Hazel (Roland) Hall, brothers Doyle (Charlene) Spangler and Clarence Lyle Spangler and brother-in-law Herb Moore.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Lois Spangler of Clarinda, Iowa; daughters, Wanda (Curtis) Isaacson of Clarinda, Iowa, Mary (Frank Perez) Lickei of Aurora, Colorado, Malena (Robert) Keeler of Shenandoah, Iowa, Noretta Fuller of Shenandoah, Iowa and Karen Spangler of Shenandoah, Iowa; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister, Ruby Moore of St. Joseph, Missouri, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Celebration of life funeral service will be held 10:30 am, Monday, November 20, 2017 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home.

Visitation with the family will be held from 2-4pm, Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home.

Burial will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.
