Daniel C.
Head
May 10, 1937 — Jul 26, 2022
Holiday Island
Daniel "Danny" Clement Head, 85, Holiday Island, Arkansas (formerly Imogene, Iowa), was born on May 10, 1937 at the old Hamburg hospital to Helen (Maher) Head and Anthony "Tony" Head. He passed away on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at his home in Holiday Island, Arkansas.
He was raised on the family farm southwest of Imogene and attended St. Patrick Academy in Imogene, graduating in 1955. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1956-1958 and enjoyed participating in recreational boxing events while in the service. On August 17, 1963, he was married to Clarice Winkler of Hamburg, Iowa at St. Patrick's Church in Imogene. They settled in Lincoln, Nebraska and had three children, Terry, Tom and Cathy. Dan worked at Nebraska Wesleyan University until 1973 when Clarice passed away.
Dan and the children returned to Imogene where he farmed the family land. He was an active member of St. Patrick's Church for many years, serving on the Parish Council and teaching religious education.
He married Betty Mayberry of Randolph, Iowa at St. Patrick's Church on March 7, 1981 and her children, Melanie and Ken, joined the family. Dan continued to farm until his retirement in 2001 and was an innovator with no-till soybean farming. He and Betty relocated to Arkansas in 2002. They became members of St. Edward Catholic Church in Cassville, Missouri, had many adventures and were blessed with many new friends in the Holiday Island community.
Dan was a man of great faith who could find the positive in any situation. He always had a story to share, often laced with his own brand of humor and quickly followed by his contagious laugh. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, playing cards and spending time with family and friends. And he could talk to anyone so EVERYONE was a friend. Dan believed in the value of education and was especially proud that all five of his children earned college degrees. He faithfully fed up to ten head of deer every morning at their Arkansas home, proving you can take the man out of the farm, but you can't take the farm out of the man.
Preceding Dan in death were his parents, late wife Clarice and brother Jerry Head.
He is survived by his wife, Betty (Mayberry); children, Terry (Janell) Head, Ankeny, IA; Tom Head, Woodland Hills, CA; Cathy (Paul Pick) Hoch, Urbandale, IA; step-children, Melanie Mayberry, Grimes, IA; and Ken (Lanette) Mayberry, Lodi, WI; grandchildren, Matthew (Emily) Hoch, Windsor Heights, IA; Sarah (Jake) Eggers, Grimes, IA; Kyle Mayberry, Lodi, WI; and Krista Mayberry, Lodi, WI; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Burial will be held at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Imogene.
