Catherine Clarice Maher daughter of Nicholas and Ellen Sloan was born in a snow storm in rural Imogene, Iowa on November 30, 1919. Clarice passed away April 5, 2013 at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah at the age of 93.
Clarice attended elementary school at Rice Country School in rural Imogene. She graduated from Shenandoah High School in 1938.
Clarice was united in marriage to Robert J. Maher on June 26, 1940 in Shenandoah. They resided in Shenandoah where they raised their eight children.
Clarice worked at Earl May Seed Company in her younger years. Later after raising her children she worked as an aide at Hand Community Hospital and did special duty nursing care in the community. She was a member of the Regina Guild and American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a member of several bridge clubs, one of her greatest loves. She enjoyed attending her children's athletic events. Also enjoyed social activities with her friends.
Clarice was preceded in death by her husband Robert J. Maher, son Tim Maher, parents Nicholas and Ellen Sloan, sisters Mary Ellen Gilmore and Maureen Hansen, and brother John Sloan.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Kathleen Rydberg and husband Ronald and their children Paul, Thad, and Mark; daughter Barbara Moers and her children Scott and Carrie; daughter Mary Clarice Knop and husband David and children Abby and Bo; son Tom Maher and wife Kathy and children Todd Maher, Nick Maher, Derek Stodden and Erica Spencer; daughter Jacque Nicholas and husband Joe and children Andy, Ben and Alison Beseda; daughter Paula Brown and husband Hal and children Whitney and Maggie; and son Michael J. Maher and friend Mandy Gillaspey, 19 great-grandchildren, and host of other family and friends.
