Obituary

Clarice Marie (Paulson) Hammargren was born on May 2, 1919 in Omaha, Nebraska. In early infancy she was placed in the Child Saving Institute in Omaha due to the death of both of her parents from the flu epidemic. At the age of 15 months she was adopted into a loving home by Anton F. and Hilma (Oline) Paulson of Shenandoah, Iowa. Her father passed away in May of 1932 and she and her mother moved to Essex, Iowa. Clarice Marie graduated from Essex High School with the Class of 1937 and from the Commericial Extension College in Omaha in 1938.

Clarice Marie worked as a telephone operator for Farmer's Telephone Co. in Essex for ten years. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Essex where she served as secretary for 30 years until retiring in 1987. She later worked several years at the Essex Furniture Store.

On January 5, 1947, Clarice Marie was united in marriage to Evald Ruben Hammargren. To this union one son, Douglas Paul Hammargren, was born on February 14, 1948.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Anton F. and Hilma (Oline) Paulson; and her husband, Evald. Survivors include her son, Douglas Hammargren of Shenandoah; grandson, Brian Hammargren and wife Lisa of Omaha; two great grandchildren, Andrew and Emily; sister-in-law, June Finch of Tampa, FL; other relatives and friends
