Junior passed away on Sunday morning at the Shenandoah Medical Center. He is survivied by his wife Elaine of the home.

Memorials may be directed to the Shenandoah American Legion, The Shenandoah Public Library, The Shenandoah Medical Center Hospice Program or Iowa Public Television in lieu of flowers.

Clarence L. Snyder, Jr. son of Clarence L. Snyder, Sr. and Doris R. Snyder was born on February 28, 1922 in Corydon, Iowa. He passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2012 at the Shenandoah Medical Center at the age of 90.

Clarence was a graduate of Shenandoah High School, and on September 12, 1941 married the love of his life Beth Elaine Mackoy. In 1942 he was called into the US Army serving with the 383rd Infantry Regiment of the 96th Infantry Division known as the "Dead Eyes". He saw service in the Philippines and Ryukyus Islands. He was in charge of a 12-man rifle squad and supervised the loading, aiming and firing of weapons such as mortars, machine guns, pistols, bazookas, grenades and the use of trench knives. He also instructed men in the use of camouflage, the ability to map read and tactical use of weapons. As platoon guide, he led men on scouting patrols into enemy territory, which included the taking of Okinawa and was enroute to Japan for a full-scale invasion when the surrender was announced and signed. He received the Bronze Star, the Bronze Arrowhead Star and two Purple Heart Ribbons.

Upon his return to Shenandoah, Clarence entered into business with his wife and parents, establishing the Snyder Motor Company from 1946-1969. He continued to visit the company regularly and enjoyed Saturday morning coffee with the guys. Clarence remained active in the Shenandoah and Farragut area through his farming interests. He was a life long member of the Shenandoah American Legion Post #88 and the BPOE.

No one enjoyed people as much as Clarence. He was able to quickly identify and establish a rapport with people he met and could tell a joke better than most. He is remembered for his love of family, his friends and love of country. His wife and family are very appreciative of the acts of kindness by the many friends who knew Clarence by many names: Snyder, Junior, Snyd or Snyda.

Clarence is survived by his devoted wife of 71 years Elaine; sister-in-law Mildred Teachout; nieces and nephews Sherry Glenn and family of Urbandale, IA, Julie and Jack Cooper and family of Worcester, MA, Mackoy Teachout and son and Carolyn Gilbert of Farragut, IA, Holly and Al Krabbenhoeft and family of Portage, IN and David and Carol Evans of Eskanaba, MI; cousins Mary Ann Heitman of Germantown, WI; Christina Stemm of Herbertus, WI and Lee Ann Brockman of Ozark, MO; other friends in Iowa and Arizona.
