Obituary

Charles William Adams, son of Orval Leslie and Alice Jo (Emanuel)Adams, was born on December 28, 1928 at Gravity, Iowa. He passed away on November 11, 2014 at his home in Shenandoah surrounded by his family.

Charles was the oldest of three children. He grew up in Iowa most of his life with the exception of living in Illinois for short time when he was small.

A retired tenant farmer, Charles worked for John Walker and Marvin Hunt the longest. He also worked for the Mount Arbor's and Lakes nurseries. In addition, he also worked on a dredging barge on the Missouri River. After retirement from farming, he worked part-time as a security guard for parades and games.

Charles joined the Army National Guard on November 1, 1948 and was honorably discharged on January 1, 1952. On February 15, 1952 he enlisted in the U. S. Army. He spent a year in Korea during the war building roads and delivering supplies to the front lines. He was honorably discharged on February 14, 1955. He was very proud to be a veteran. He was a member of both the American Legion and VFW.

While working in Kansas he met Lillie Bell Flint and they were married on July 24, 1952 in Wathena, Kansas. There were five children born to this union; Kathleen S. Annette R., Charles L., Orval R. and John W. Together they enjoyed 62 years of marriage.

Preceding Charles in death were his parents; brother, Harold L. (Cotton) Adams; sister, Hazel Kalkas; nephew, Randall Adams; and a granddaughter, Tabitha Lancon.

Survivors include his loving wife, Lillie; five children, Kathie (Duane) Lockhart of Rozet, WY, Ann (Dickie) Archer of Red Oak, IA, Lee Adams of Belvidere, NE, Orval (Ruth) Adams of Coin, IA, and John (Tammy) Adams of Shenandoah; sister-in-law, Dorothy Adams of Sidney, IA; grandchildren, Amber (Matt) Tschacher of SD, Michael (July) Lockhart of Wy, Arron Lockhart of WY, Richie (Shawn) Archer of NE, Heather (Clyde) Zeigler of IA, Keri Adams of IA, C W (Dezma) Adams of IA, Jessie (Candella) Finchem of IA, Amber (John) Rodriguez of FL, Brayden Adams of IA, Miley Adams of IA, Steven (Jessica) Rogers of NE and Krystal Adams of IA; 28 great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.

Burial will be held at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah.
