Obituary

Charles Edwin Dorl, Sr., son of Wilson Charles and Beulah (Nelson) Dorl was born on September 3, 1936 in New Market, Iowa. Charles entered into eternal peace on December 4, 2013 at his home in Shenandoah, Iowa, surrounded by his loving family.

Charles grew up in the community of New Market. He graduated from New Market Community School with the Class of 1954. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served his country with pride until 1966. Following his discharge he worked for the University of Nebraska in Omaha for a year, after that he working for the Veterans Administration in Lincoln for 5 years.

Charles retired from the VA on disability in September of 1982; he then went to work for the Bent County Sheriffs Department as a deputy sheriff. He worked there for three years before taking a job with the Douglas County Corrections Department. He also worked for Ralph Kohler as a guide for geese and duck hunters in Tekamah, Nebraska.

On December 13, 2008 he was united in marriage to Shirley Racine at the Norwich United Methodist Church. Some of his hobbies included duck hunting, fishing, gardening, planting flowers, bowling, cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers football team and going to the casino.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-parents: Wilson and Jean Dorl and Beulah and Joe Kelly; sister Carolyn Owens; sons Carl, John and Roger Dorl and grandson Austin Winters.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Shirley Dorl of Shenandoah; children Josephine Kempston of Coweta, OK, Debra Hulse and husband Ray of Friend, NE; Charles Dorl of Concord, California, Stanley Racine, David Racine and wife Colleen and Tanya Racine all of Shenandoah, IA; brother John Dorl and wife Vickie of Denver, CO and Terry Dorl of Shenandoah, IA; sisters Esther Swigert and husband Bill and Myrna Adair; brother-in-law Paul Owen; grandchildren Dustin Winter, Tara Langerberg and husband Mike, Tonya Petterson and husband Josh, Colby Racine, Jacob Racine, Denton Racine, Shelby Ross, Joe Racine, Katie Ross, Anthony Racine, Samantha Racine, Levi Glines and Connell Racine; great-grandchildren Kelsie, Madison, Landon, Cory, Ryan, Owen and Zoey; other family and friends.
