Obituary

Charles Lowell Pendleton, 87, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2010, at Village Care Center in Maryville, Missouri.

Charles was born in Essex to Clermon and Bessie (Williams) Pendleton on May 20, 1923. He graduated from Essex High School. On April 11, 1946, he was united in marriage to Phyllis June Thrapp in Hiawatha, Kansas. Charles worked for Union Carbide in Red Oak for 35 years before retiring in 1984. He was a veteran of World War II and served three years in the U. S. Army Amphibious Engineers, 21 months overseas. He served in 3 combat operations in New Guinea, 1 operation on Morotai Island and 3 on Luzon, Philippine Islands. He later saw police action in Nagoya Japan. He was involved in the American Legion Post #333, the Elks, and was a member of the Essex First Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Phyllis; son Michael; brothers Howard, Clarence, Glen and Harry; and sisters Lenora, Ruth and Bertha.

Those left to honor his memory include his daughters Kathy Bryant and husband Wayne of Bethany, MO and Sandy Carlson and husband Mike of Essex, IA; daughter-in-law Judy Pendleton of Burlington, IA; grandchildren Chris Bryant, Tim Bryant, Shantel Billington, Jodi Fort, Lindsay Fichter, Amy Ribando, Sarah Hecox, and Emily Livingston; 15 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
