Charles E. Binau, Sr., son of Harry Evern and Thelma Estella (Ryan) Binau, was born on July 3, 1927, in Norwich, Iowa, and entered into rest on August 6, 2007, at the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 80.

Charles spent his childhood years growing up in the rural Coin, Iowa area. As a young man, his family moved to Ottumwa, Iowa and then returned to Shenandoah in 1952. Charles remained in Shenandoah until the time of his death.

On August 23, 1961, Charles was united in marriage to Marcelene Booher in Shenandoah, Iowa and continued to reside here. Charles was a self employed mechanic for over 50 years at Binau Repair in Shenandoah. He was baptized at the Episcopal Church in Shenandoah as a young boy and had submerged baptism at Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Shenandoah.

Charles enjoyed many things. He liked to be outside fishing and camping. He enjoyed taking trips to Branson, Missouri and spending time with his family. Charles was quite the story teller and enjoyed telling the grandkids of "cowboys & Indians" in the badlands of South Dakota. He also liked old classic cars, the kittens, his bird Tweety and his dog Tiny.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ray Binau; niece, Loretta Binau; half sister, Marjorie Wykoff; nephew, Eddie Binau; sister, Patty Snow; half brother, Albert Binau; half sister, Rachel Reynolds; step daughter, Jessie Frohling and step granddaughter, Darla Booher.

Charles is survived by his wife, Marcelene Binau of Shenandoah; daughter, Thelma Binau; son, Charlie Binau Jr. and wife Mary of Shenandoah; daughter, Connie Dawson and husband Jimmie of Shenandoah; son at heart, Keith Booher of Coin; stepson, Earl Booher and wife Denise of Shambaugh; stepdaughter, Mary Ellison of Villisca; stepson, Bert Irvin of Shenandoah; brother, Tom Binau and wife Dorothy of Council Bluffs; half brother, Harry Regal of Sacramento, CA; half brother, Bobby Savage of San Antonio, TX; 8 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 16 step grandchildren; 48 step great grandchildren; 23 step great-great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held on Friday, August 10, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah. Words of comfort were given by the Rev. Marcia Gilbert Campbell. Attending the memory register were Dee Saner and Connie Joslyn. Caring for the flowers were Chrissi Kenkel, Carmen Binau and Jessica Rose Binau. Muscical selections were "Cadillac Man", "Grandpa", "One Wing In The Fire", and "Wind Beneath My Wings". Honorary casket bearers were Josh Binau, Anthony Binau, Charles Binau III, Nathan Binau and Jacob Wright. Casket bearers were Rodney Binau, Larry Binau, Tommy Binau, Timmy Binau, Jamie Binau, and Dwight Binau. Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Shenandoah. Memorials are being directed to the family. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
