Carol Ann Fletcher was born on May 10, 1950, in Creston, Iowa, the daughter of Roy Eugene and Phyllis Jean (Eblen) DeVore. Carol passed away on May 3, 2023, at her home in Shenandoah, Iowa.
Carol's early years were spent in Cumberland, IA. She graduated from Cumberland-Massena High School with the class of 1968. On April 3, 1971, she was united in marriage to Donnie "Whitey" Dean Fletcher in Cumberland, Iowa. The couple was blessed with the birth of three children Jamie, Jana, and Matthew. During their marriage they lived in Omaha, NE, Hastings, NE, Grand Island, NE, and Carson, IA before settling down in Shenandoah. Carol and Donnie shared 39 years of marriage.
Carol over the years has had several rewarding occupations. She worked for Aetna Insurance, Iowa Department of Human Services, Wabash Winery and Little Waite Lanes. She was active in community groups such as Jaycettes, Shenandoah Booster Club, Elks Wrestling, and working the election polls. Carol loved sitting on her screened-in back porch watching and listening to the birds while enjoy a glass of iced tea. She enjoyed playing cards and board games, watching Husker football, listening to music, gardening, and traveling. Above all, the times spent with her family were of utmost importance to her. She enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids participate in athletic events and making a feast for every family gathering.
Carol was preceded in death by her Husband, Don (Whitey) Fletcher; Parents, Roy and Phyllis DeVore; Grandchild, Baby Fletcher; Father and Mother-in-Law, Howard and Pearl Fletcher; Niece, Ann Nish; Brother-In-Laws, Jack Fletcher, Junior Fletcher, Dale Erickson, Ted Glass, and Ike Porter; Sisters-in-Laws, Sharon Warrior and Yvonne Fletcher.
Carol will be sadly missed by her daughter Jamie Hahn and husband, Timothy of Lincoln, NE; daughter Jana Rayburn and husband, Landon of Emerson, IA; son Matthew Fletcher and wife, Jennifer of Underwood, IA; grandchildren: Derek and Kyler Hahn; Ali, Ryan, and Owen Fletcher; sister, Kay (Bill) Nish; nephew and niece, Sean and Kaitlin Nish, sisters and brothers-in-law Annette Porter, Shirley (Kenneth) Fletcher, Leola Glass, Nancy Erickson, Danny (Shelia) Fletcher, Richard (Linda) Fletcher; Robert (Penny) Fletcher; other family and friends; and her dog, Jazzy.
Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 8, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church in Shenandoah. Visitation with the family will be held 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, May 7, 2023 at the Wabash Memorial Chapel in Shenandoah. Following the memorial service and luncheon the burial of cremains will be held at the Victoria Township Cemetery near Massena, Iowa. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Shenandoah Elks Wrestling, People for Paws or the Shenandoah Public Library. The memorial services will be live streamed at www.youtube.com/@shen.church8192/streams.
