Byron Allan Carter, 71 of Coin, entered into eternal peace on March 6, 2025 at the Shenandoah Medical Center with his loving family by his side.  Memorials may be directed to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or The Shriner's Hospital in his name.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at the First Baptist Church in Shenandoah at 2:00 p.m.  The family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to services.  Military rites will follow the services at the church.  Also following the military rites the family will "Scoop the Loop" and asks that those that have classic cars to join them in a final ride prior to refreshments being served back at the church.

Byron Allan Carter was born on January 16, 1954 in Shenandoah, Iowa, the third child born to Lloyd and Ruby (Truex) Carter.  Byron entered into eternal peace on March 6, 2025 at the Shenandoah Medical Center, following a brave battle with cancer.

Byron was a young child when the family moved to Topanga, California.  Following the unexpected death of his father the family moved back to Shenandoah.  His mother would later remarry, Ed Woods.  He became the loving father that Byron and his sibling would call "Dad" all their lives.  He attended several elementary schools, attended junior high in Shenandoah and graduated from Farragut High School with the Class of 1972.  As a young man he enjoyed working on cars with his dad.  He developed a true love for mechanical work.  They often joke that the first true love of his life was his 1966 GTO.  This car was his first of many muscle cars and the inspiration for the collection that became his lifelong passion.

Byron was united in marriage to Laura Jane Gordon in March of 1973.  To this union a daughter, Michelle was born.  The family settled in Sidney.  Byron enlisted in the National Guard in early 1974.  He was a member of the 168th Red Bull division.  His loud booming voice and his gift of gab would serve him well as he rose through the ranks over his 30 year career.  He made many lifelong friends.

After the end of his first marriage he married Twyla Louise Cross in Clarinda.  They settled in Westboro, MO where Byron worked at the Missouri Beef plant in Tarkio and later worked at Martin Lumber Yard in Shenandoah.  After his second marriage ended he returned to Shenandoah to live.  Still active in the National Guard, he met the love of his life in Tina Marie Culver.  She was a fellow guard member who shared his passion for cars, socializing, dancing, fishing  and taking long drives in the country.  They were united in marriage on November 25, 1989.  They were blessed with 35 years of marriage before Byron's passing.

Byron and Tina purchased an acreage outside of Coin, which became their primary residence.  This was their true "heaven on earth".  Since the farm had plenty of storage space, their passion for collecting cars began in earnest.  Just a short year later in late 1990, Tina's division, the 1168th Transportation Unit in Red Oak was activated to serve in Desert Storm.  Byron volunteered, so that he could serve with Tina during this time.  In October of 1991, Tina was in a life changing and disabling car accident.  Byron became her primary caregiver for the next 34 years.  A role that he took on with all the enthusiasm and determination that he was known for in all his passions.

Over the years they became lifetime members of the Nishna Valley VFW Post 7224 and the American Legion Post 49 in Rock Port.  They also joined the Slo' Rollers of Northwest, MO and became an active part of the car community.  They filled the rest of their days with fishing, picnics, being outside and they were always on the go.  They enjoyed exploring the country backroads, finding new diners and enjoyed many "home cooked" restaurants.  They attended their fair share of car shows and estate sales.  Byron didn't know a stranger and could talk to anyone for hours at a time.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, brothers Charles and Lloyd and brother-in-law Russell Strange.  Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife Tina Carter of Northboro; daughter Michelle Meyers of Eureka, MO; sister Ruby Strange of Shenandoah; step-sister Karen Smith of Lebanon, IA; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
