Betty Louise (Swanson) Briggs was born May 26, 1926 to Luther E. and Frances J. (Bengston) Swanson. Betty grew up on a farm north of Shenandoah and attended country school later graduating from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 1944.
Betty married Wayne Briggs December 12, 1948 in Omaha, Neb. To this union two children were born, Vicki Ann and Michael Wayne. Betty and Wayne were married 67 years.
Betty first worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Tracy and later became a loan officer for Avco Financial Service where she worked for 25 years.
Betty loved playing golf. She was a member of the Ladies Golf Association and most days you could find her on the course. She also loved going to garage sales, playing Mahjong and Bridge. She was a member of Elks Bridge, Country Club Bridge, and Duplicate Bridge. Betty also enjoyed dancing, boating and swimming. She was a member of Toastmistress and a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. She loved being with her grandchildren and working in the yard.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents Luther and Frances Swanson, brothers and sisters, Juliette Priest, Robert Swanson, Carroll Swanson, Mert Swanson, and JoAnne Swanson.
Betty is survived by her husband Wayne Briggs, daughter Vicki Ann and husband Michael LePorte, son Michael Wayne and wife Vicky Sue, grandchildren Troy and wife Danica LePorte, Jason and wife Lisa LePorte, and Jessica and husband Jeff Peterson; 8 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Betty donated her body to science.
