Betty Isabelle (Bennett) Lee was born on December 1, 1924 in Coin, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Martha (Campbell) Bennett.  Betty entered into eternal peace on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at the Nebraska Masonic Home in Plattsmouth.

Betty was the youngest of five siblings.  Her early years were spent in the Coin and Northboro communities.  She graduated from Northboro High School with the Class of 1942.  In 1943 she went to work for CB&Q Railroad.  On October 7, 1945 she was united in marriage to Goodson Neal Lee in Shenandoah, Iowa.  They later moved to Tarkio so Goodson could finish his accounting degree.  Betty then took a job working for Missouri Service Utility Company.  The couple then moved to Columbus, Nebraska and Betty went to work for Nebraska Public Power and Electric Company.

Betty and Goodson were blessed with the birth of four sons, Barry Bennett, James Charles, Ronald Rollie and Lee Norman.  In 1960, the family moved to Bellevue.  Betty began work in 1965 for ITT at the Strategic Air Command on a very secretive assignment which included typing columns of code symbols from a manual typewriter.  When she asked her supervisor  "What are these symbols for?", his response was, "Would you like to be part of sending a man to the moon?"  The codes were computer drawer codes for sending Apollo 11 to the moon.  Betty was very proud to have a minute part in the monumental achievement for the whole world.   Betty would later go to work for Peoples Natural Gas where she worked as a trainer until her retirement in 1985.

Betty was not a stranger to heartache when she lost her beloved Goodson in March of 1978.   Betty was a loving and dedicated wife and mother.  She served as a Cub Scout "Den Mother", was Past President and a Life Member in Emerson PTA  Columbus, NE, was a lifetime member in the Women's Society of the Methodist Church and was an officer in Easter Star for nine years.  Betty also held the title of Mrs. Columbus in 1957 and competed in the Mrs. Nebraska contest.  She also served as the first female director for the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce, during which time she was presented with the Jewel of Bellevue Award for: building a new library, developing Hayworth Park, Opening the SAC Museum, providing upgraded training for volunteer fire departments and had the first church and courthouse in Nebraska placed on the National Register of Historic Places.  That is the work of a true renaissance woman.   On April 11, 1981 she was united in marriage to Lester Bicking.  The couple enjoyed many years together until his passing in 2009.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, first husband Goodson, second husband Lester, son Barry Lee, and daughters-in-law Karen Lee and Karla Lee.  Those left to honor her memory include her sons, James (Sharon) Lee of Papillion , Ronald Lee of Pawnee City, and Lee Norman (Sandy) Lee of Ralston; grandchildren Michelle (Tom) Van Soelen of Council Bluffs, Tracy (Ed) Fletcher of Papillion, Brian Lee of Lincoln, Chad (Jill) Lee of Glenwood Springs, CO, Amy (Shayne) McGuire of Omaha , Kara Lee of Pawnee, Rachel (Tony) McPhillips of Norfolk, Danny Lee, Kyle (Jenny) Lee of Bellevue and Kurt Lee of Ralston; great-grandchildren Kailyn Kennett, Audrey & Olivia Van Soelen, Maisy & Matthew Fletcher, Collin & Abigail Lee, Chandler, Skylar and Fynlee McGuire and Kolbi Lee; other relatives and friends.
