Barbara Jean Haeffele was born on August 15, 1940, the daughter of William Fredrich Carl and Vera Lucille (Duerfeldt) Haeffele.  Barb entered into eternal peace on Monday, April 8, 2024 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 83 years.

Barb was united in marriage to Gale W. Pickard on July 17, 1960 in Falls City, Nebraska.  The couple was blessed with two children, Gayla and Randy.  During their marriage they lived in Nebraska, Canton, South Dakota and finally found their roots in Shenandoah.  The couple was blessed with 25 years of marriage before Gale's sudden passing on October 6, 1984.

On March 14, 1986 she was united in marriage to Rex E. Funk in Las Vegas, Nevada.  The couple also lived in Shenandoah and Clarinda during their marriage.  They were married for 35 years until Rex's passing on May 23, 2021.  During her working days she was employed at Butcher Hardware and Whitehill Gas and Oil in Shenandoah for many years.  After her marriage to Rex, they ran Hamburg Lanes for a few years and then built and ran Frontier Lanes in Clarinda for many years until their retirement.

She was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Shenandoah.  She loved bowling and was a regular bowler in Shenandoah.  It was a great fit when her and Rex built and ran Frontier Lanes in Clarinda.  She enjoyed the many friendships she made at the bowling alley.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Gale W. Pickard and Rex E. Funk; her parents, brother, Marvin Haefflele and sisters, Wilma I. Dunbar and Mary Lou Coonce.  Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Gayla J. (Pickard) Frohwein and husband Bruce of Altoona, IA; son, Randy W. Pickard and wife Michelle of Des Moines, IA; four grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; other relatives and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church or Taylor House Hospice.
