Obituary

Audrey Denton Gray, 92 of Scottsdale, AZ and formerly of Shenandoah, IA entered into eternal peace on Monday, February 19, 2018.

Audrey went into the presence of the Lord on February 19, 2018. She passed peacefully at Hospice of the Valley in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Audrey is originally from Denton, Kansas and was born on the family farm. She is the daughter of Chester and Agnus Denton (both deceased). The town of Denton was named after her great-great-grandfather who was from England and settled on a farm in the area. Audrey attended Country School through 3rd grade when her family moved to Oswego, Kansas. There were two more moves to follow, one to Crystal River Ranch near Glenwood Springs, Colorado and her Senior year, she moved to Creston, Iowa. After high school graduation, she attended and graduated from Commercial Extension Business School in Omaha, Nebraska. Many jobs came along for Audrey in the years to follow as a private secretary for Coca-Cola Bottling Company and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. After her children were older, she worked as a legal secretary and later was active in the family owned business with her husband and son at Gray Equipment Company in Shenandoah, Iowa. She was also a devoted Avon representative for 21 years and enjoyed the many people she got to know on her deliveries. Audrey was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church where she held various offices and taught Sunday School. In addition, she was a Boy Scout leader and a Bluebird leader.

Audrey met her husband, Milford (deceased), who was in the Service during World War II. They were married for 48 years and had two children, Stanley (deceased) and Crystal. She was preceded in death by her sister Winnifred Hanna. Audrey is survived by her two brothers, Byron Denton of Orland, California and Keith Denton of Bedford, Iowa, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Audrey is also survived by her daughter Crystal, five grandchildren: Scott, Joshua, John, Jonathan and Robin, and four great grandchildren, who have all been fortunate to be loved by their Grandmother.

The family wishes to extend our gratitude to the caring staffs of Westminster Village and Hospice of the Valley.
